Servicios Auxiliares Marítimos Algeciras (SAM Algeciras) achieves the certification of the International Featured Standards (IFS) Logistic for the storage of agri-food products at controlled temperature. After a period of rigorous work, Alonso Group’s company has obtained this new seal, which joins the full AEO and the organic product certificate it obtained last May. The IFS Logistic guarantees the treatment of goods in its facilities in a safe manner at a legislative and quality level.
SAM Algeciras, the multimodal platform that Alonso Group manages in the hinterland of the port of Algeciras, has just obtained IFS (International Featured Standards) Logistic certification for the storage of food products at controlled temperatures. The standard guarantees that the goods are treated safely, in strict compliance with current legislative specifications, control requirements and quality management.
The IFS Logistic includes relevant aspects such as traceability, hygiene, pest control, quality management, documentation and registration procedures, and safety. These are especially important when it comes to the handling and storage of perishable products, which benefits all the actors involved in the global logistics chain.
Advantages of the IFS Logistic
Having a certification of these characteristics is a way to increase competitiveness, improve efficiency and reduce costs since it achieves a continuous improvement of internal processes. In addition, it allows access to new markets by increasing quality and meeting the requirements of many distributors.
Authorized for the export of meat products
On the other hand, SAM Algeciras has also achieved certification as an exporter of meat products or products containing meat products to third countries that require higher requirements than those applied in the European Union. To this end, the company has implemented a specific self-control system (SAE) with level 3 verified by an independent body, as established by Decree 993/2014.
The SAE includes data such as the requirements established by the importing country (product specifications, homologation of suppliers, traceability or revision of the system).
Continuous search for excellence
In recent months SAM Algeciras, one of the most advanced specialized cold logistics platforms in the Iberian Peninsula, has also achieved the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification for customs simplifications, safety and security. In this way, all goods passing through the facilities have higher priority in the processing and procedures with Customs, a benefit for large importers, especially in the fruit and vegetable sector.
Numerous certifications are added to the one obtained in May for the storage of organic products in its refrigeration facilities. A BIO certification that is being applied to fruits, vegetables or olive oil of Spanish origin. The demand for this type of product is increasing, which is why Alonso Group’s platform has sought to adapt to the new demands of the national and international markets.
Strategic location
SAM Algeciras‘ logistics platform has more than 120,000 square meters of facilities next to the main land, rail and sea routes that connect Algeciras to the rest of the world. It is strategically located just over one kilometer from the port of Algeciras, one of the most important ports in the southern Mediterranean, which stands out for its container and fruit and vegetable traffic.
