In the context of international trade, the cold chain has become a strategic factor for ensuring the competitiveness and continuity of supply chains. The growth in perishable goods’ trade, coupled with increasingly stringent health and safety standards, makes it essential to maintain stable temperature conditions throughout the entire process.
At SAM Algeciras, we combine technology, infrastructure and expertise to ensure temperature control from the moment goods arrive until they are dispatched. Strategically located in Algeciras, our multimodal logistics hub connects the main sea, road and rail routes with Spain, Europe and the rest of the world. Our facilities comprise 6,300 m² dedicated to the storage of chilled and frozen goods, 11 dual-temperature cold stores and capacity for over 8,700 pallets.
Specialised infrastructure
Logistics begins the moment the goods arrive at our facilities. To minimise the products’ exposure to external conditions, we have 3,000 m² of temperature-controlled loading and unloading areas, equipped with 15 docks to handle lorries and containers simultaneously.
Once unloaded, the goods are moved to our multi-temperature cold stores, which allow us to operate under different temperature conditions and are equipped for order picking. The process is carried out using a highly efficient system based on a non-polluting natural refrigerant, combining two key pillars of our philosophy: maintaining optimal storage conditions and managing resources more efficiently.
When it comes to dispatch, at SAM Algeciras we have specialist facilities for the consolidation and preparation of reefer containers, efficiently linking warehouse operations with the next link in the logistics chain. This capability is further enhanced by our strategic location. Our proximity to one of the main maritime hubs in the Strait helps to minimise transport distances and facilitates the connection of refrigerated and frozen goods to the main international routes.
Technology, control and experience
This entire operation is based on a combination of technology, control and experience. The robotic systems and integrated management tools used in our operations enable us to optimise movements and space, whilst food traceability and online stock control ensure continuous monitoring of goods at every stage. Added to this is the expertise of a team with over 20 years’ experience in logistics and food handling, which provides the necessary capability to manage each operation with precision.
At SAM Algeciras, we understand the cold chain as a comprehensive process that begins with the receipt of goods and continues until they are handed over to the next link in the logistics chain. Our cold storage facilities, our strategic location next to the Port of Algeciras, the technology we use to manage our operations, our traceability systems and the expertise of our teams enable us to offer a specialised solution for chilled and frozen goods. This capability makes our platform a strategic hub for the logistics of perishable goods and for connecting them to national and international markets.
