SAM Algeciras has received the visit of a delegation of fruit and vegetable businessmen from Costa Rica. The multimodal platform of Alonso Group has taken advantage of this meeting to present its state-of-the-art facilities or the treatment received by the refrigerated goods that enter its warehouses. This event has served to strengthen commercial ties with the Latin American country and to forge alliances that will serve for the future.
The company has 24,000 square metres of dry storage, 11 cold stores and 80,000 square metres for the storage, maintenance and repair of all types of containers. In addition, SAM Algeciras offers a wide range of logistics services such as quality control and the preparation of orders or reefers. Thanks to its good land and sea transport connections, SAM Algeciras has become in recent years a very important company within the Alonso holding company.
The port of Algeciras, favourite destination for Costa Rican exports
At present, 43% of refrigerated exports arriving at the port of Algeciras come from Costa Rica, which has made it the first commercial partner for refrigerated traffic. As an example, it’s estimated that 80% of the pineapples arriving on the Iberian Peninsula come through the Andalusian port.
On the other hand, most of the olive oil that enters Costa Rica is of Spanish origin, creating a complete symbiosis that enriches both countries. The key factor that has made this good connectivity possible derives from the direct maritime transport connection available. In fact, the transit time between the Central American country and the port of Algeciras is only 12 days.
Grand tour of other facilities in the Andalusian hinterland
In addition to the visit to SAM Algeciras, the Costa Rica business delegation also took the opportunity to visit the facilities of the port of Algeciras, one of the most important in Europe due to its strategic location. They also visited the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) and the Border Control Post (PCF) which is responsible for the inspection of goods. A complete tour of the heart of the Andalusian hinterland with the aim of strengthening and consolidating bilateral trade relations.
