In Algeciras, rail transport is increasing and, during the last month of July, a record has been broken in the number of TEUs transported. Specifically, 5,191 TEUs of import and export have been moved, which represents 123% more containers transported if we compare it with the data of the previous year. Thanks to the growth of rail traffic in the Andalusian city, 16,000 lorry journeys throughout the Iberian Peninsula have been avoided.
SAM Algeciras, next to the freight train station
Our multimodal logistics platform, SAM Algeciras, is located very close to the freight train station. An added value for facilities that exceed 120,000 square metres destined to cover a wide range of logistics services. A strategic location in the hinterland of the port of Algeciras. Our offer of temperature-controlled storage services also stands out: more than 5,300 square metres destined for the perishable distribution industry. Specifically, we are talking about 11 cold stores, more than 8,700 pallet capacity and 15 loading and unloading docks for vehicles and containers simultaneously.
But our logistics offer goes beyond Algeciras as, as part of the Alonso Group, we have warehouses in the main hubs of the Iberian Peninsula: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Murcia and Alicante. The best guarantee of excellent logistics coverage at the service of any production sector or industry with these types of needs.
Rail terminals managed by the Alonso holding company
In a context where rail freight traffic is becoming increasingly important, the Alonso holding company manages rail terminals such as Can Tunis (Barcelona), Morrot (Barcelona), Fuente de San Luis (Valencia) and Silla (Valencia). Both Can Tunis and Morrot have mixed gauge (UIC and Iberian), which means that transshipments outside the peninsula are much faster. The Alonso Group’s Global Logistic Plan is committed to an efficient and sustainable transport through the railway. A great boost to intermodality in freight transport where sustainability is also an unquestionable protagonist.
